The first few chapters were a bit of a blur, but when I reached the Voigt-Kampff test on Rachael, the story seemed to pick up. I am now finding the story far more enjoyable then I had been previously. I then found myself far more intrigued with the views and ideals of the androids. before the test took place you could not see the human element of the androids therefore there was no moral dilemma with killing them. I feel like the moral factor of killing androids will become more important as the story progresses. I also expect that Rachael will become a recurring character in the story and make Rick rethink the job that he is doing, in some way. I am also excited to see how Isidore plays a role in the story and whether or not the girl in his apartment building is Rachael in hiding after finding out that she is in fact a android. From what I have seen so far from the interaction between Isidore and "Rachael" has the potential of being the best part of the story and this also excites me. something that I am also feeling forward to is the personalities of the androids that Rick will be hunting, because what I have seen from the character Rachael. at this point I have been left wondering whether or not there will be much for contrast between the androids. At this point in time I can not wait to continue reading to find out more and I think that its hard to do much better then that when reading a book. If this is how the rest of the book will be I will most defiantly be happy.

Things have really picked up since my last journal, Rick has started to hunt the list of androids that he was assigned after his departments senior bounty hunter was put out of action by an android. The first android that Rick was sent to hunt was the same one that shot the senior hunter. This androids name was Polokov, Rick was sent after it to avoid letting it get away. As it was already aware of the fact that it was being hunted. the first android almost manages to kill Rick by tricking Rick into thinking that it is not the android that Rick is hunting but instead that it is a W.P.O officer (Russian Police) who had come to investigate the new form of androids. Rick sees though the ruse just in time to be allowed to come out of the situation alive. He manages to kill or retire Polokov and set out on his next target Luba Luft. Luft was under the guise of a opera singer, its at this point that things start to get confusing as when Rick attempts to use the Voigt-Kampff test Luba Luft answers the questions in a inconclusive fashion and accuses Rick of being a fraud. She calles the police and a officer that Rick does not recognize apprehends him. Rick is then taken to a police building that he had believed was out of commission.Thinking that it must be a trap Rick is surprised to see a fully operational police building . I'm very excited to see how the next events play out and how they will effect Rick on a mental level.

The moral dilemmas have really started to kick in, where I am in the story. Rick has proven himself not to be a fraud at the previously unknown police station. The police stations bounty hunter Phil Resch then travel's with Rick to the opera house, after dispatching an android disguised as Phil Resch's boss. The two men find Luba Luft an art exhibit. Rick and Phil Resch capture Luba and go to take her to their car to administrate the Voigt-Kampff test. Luba agitates Phil Resch on the way a so Phil Resch decides to shots her before they reach the car. This came somewhat as a shock as I found myself liking her character. Rick is angered by Phil Resch taking this action and demands that they test Phil Resch to see whether or not he is an android. The author uses this as one of the first moral dilemmas as Rick finds himself unhappy about the fact that Phil Resch is a human and cant be killed. I it find very interesting that Rick would rather Phil Resch was dead then Luba Luft. It completely flips Ricks views on androids upside down and he starts questioning whether or not he wants to track down the rest of androids. I'm very excited to see how he handles this chance in how he thinks about the androids.

The book took a sudden and unexpected turn when Rick decides to go and kill the remaining three androids. Before going he calls Racheal who had previously offered to help him in his mission. Instead she tries to talk him out of killing the androids. Eventually she attempts to stop Rick by sleeping with him this is a particularly disturbing part of the book. Rick is still determined afterwards and sets out to finish the job that he had started. This is when the book went a bit sour for me. To me it felt like the writer took all of the hopes that you gain reading through the book and throws it away. The androids start acting less human and Rick comes in and simply kills them all leaving Isidore mortified. The book then gets more and more depressing as they go. Some thing are added to the story just to be taken away. so for me the end of the book really damaged my view of the entire book.
I agree. I was a little bit confused during the first few chapters, but things are starting to make sense to me now, and I am excited to see how things carry on from here
ReplyDeleteI'd have to agree fully. The story really began to pick up around the time when Rachael was tested.
ReplyDelete@Journal 2: Yes, I agree. the book REALLY picked up the pace since the first android was killed off. of course, the tension just builds and builds from there.
ReplyDeleteThe book really picks up from when he is brought to the android police station, but it also makes me wonder how Resch didn't know he was working for androids for three years
ReplyDeleteInteresting comments. I appreciate that you started to enjoy the book more as the plot starts to move and things start to happen. Of course, there is that element of finding out that androids are somewhat human, making the ethical and moral dilemmas much more intriguing. Keep up the comments and make sure to post regularly.
